It is Friday afternoon and I'm sitting on a train From Paris to Rouen after going through Paris metro experience which much simple (I've heard some stories how confusing it can be). In a train a French guy asked me "Where are you from?", I was surprised that does French people actually speak English and especially to completely random person... Well at least he did and we actually managed to have a conversation. At Rouen I needed to wait Laura to pick me up from station so I just had enough time to enjoy a beer and guess what happened again... An old man started (or tried) to speak English to me but not in that level that we actually could have had a conversation, but still he tried! So maybe French people actually do speak English but they just don't like to use it in general... Or then not :D

But one thing is certain French, love towards good food so within few days I tasted something typical foods... My favourite dish I tasted in Rouen, was a pot of mussels with Roquefort sauce.
I picked a good weekend to arrive Rouen because there was free festival going on. Immediately after I had dropped down my backpack, had a cold beer and piece of Quiche Lorraine in front of me and TV where the match German vs. France was turned on. Unfortunately it didn't end well for French but in my point of view it was a good result because then I can see Germans game while I will be Germany. After the game we went to that free festival to see few bands, first one was some French band but second one was the DJ Martin Garrix who made people jump during his set. The festival was in a old docks next to the river Seine, a great place for a city festival! And there was no sight in the air about the lost football match.

Rouen is called by the name the city of 100 bells because if all bell tower bells would be counted together, there would be around 100 of them. That was one of the facts I've discovered among others like Jeanne d'arcs' memorial church and burial place are are located here in Rouen. I've been travelling quite many cities around Europe but this center of Rouen was somehow different that I've seen before. All buildings are left still, look very old fashion way which gave feeling that I was actually walking in the medieval city. But still modern, especially at the evening 23:00 starts a light and music show where the story of Jeanne is projected on the walls of most famous church in here, The Notre Dame of Rouen. But it wasn't just a beautiful architecture, because there are still bullet holes on the wall from WW2 which reminded the destruction city has also faced.

An area called Normandy (that Rouen is part of) sounds famous and a famous it is: In the middle ages it was powerful area and for example tale of Jeanne D'arc is connected to Normandy, but the most famous event in Normandy took place 70 years ago in year 1944 when Allied Forces began so called D-Day invasion to free Europe from Nazis. We visited some of the most famous beaches (Ohama Beach), Longues-sur-Mer navy battery and saw memorial of victims who gave their life in battle on those days, a cemetery of around 9500 white crosses in line made me stop for a moment thinking about the world we live in.
