Venice - The Floating City

So it is around 22:00 when my train reaches its final destination, Venice St. Lucia. It is a nice warm summer evening, it has been raining a bit earlier on day so the air feels light and fresh. City seem to be still alive, people walking along streets eating or drinking in restaurants, I took also a short walk around to know where I actually am.

I was kind of relying of that there will be other backpackers around station to hang around with, and it worked. It was kind of amusing view lots of people having their sleeping bags etc. and sleeping on the floor of station wherever they found a good spot. First I joined in for the group of 2 Sicilians and two Italians sitting outside of the main entrance to the station. After all the trains of the night has been departured or arrived the security staff closed up the station so everyone needed to come outside the station and then we were group of 10 people instead of 5. Nothing special, just general hanging around and sharing stories of people travels… Some slept, some didn’t until after a night morning arrived into the Venice and then people just disappeared on their own ways.

I actually really liked Venice by the morning (meaning something 4-5am), also of course during the night city seemed nice but the problem in there is that it is so dark outside that you really can’t see much.) Also because there were barely any people and weather wasn’t too warm yet at that time of the day. I enjoyed my walk around the city, Venice is actually quite much what I’ve been imagined it to be: canals, water everywhere, masks etc. It definitely is beautiful city but not surprisingly since you can kind of expect that already, but still it is worth of visiting once in a lifetime.

After my morning walk I went to the station to solve the problem is there any way to get somewhere further during the day and thankfully I found direct connections operating directly from Venice to Munich and wasn’t cancelled so I will make it there on time to see football final. My train left at afternoon so I still had time to walk around bit more, I walked to St. Marcus square. As I said, preferred quiet mornings when the sun is not toasting your face and people are not bumping eachothers in a hurry or just parking/stopping wherever they feel like, and block the way from everyone else. Just like it was during that afternoon.

And now towards Germany to see what kind of atmosphere the football world championship final and result of it will create...
